Optional Experience | Walk on Country

Experience the Indigenous culture of the Yagara peoples of Brisbane. Immerse yourself in the culture of the traditional custodians of this land at the beautiful Nudgee Waterholes. The day will include participation in ceremonies, sharing in bush foods, developing cultural empathy of Indigenous students’ cultural perspectives, and discussing the embedding of Indigenous cultural elements into school environments. Creating a Thriving Challenge Culture – Getting Beyond "Nice"

We often struggle with moving out of a place of "nice" or "stuck" to a dynamic, robust environment where challenging the status quo and deeply reflecting on our own practice is the norm. This dynamism creates a buzz of forward momentum and shift.

Engage in a masterclass that will give you practical and actionable steps to lift the culture in your school to a place of deep and authentic collective efficacy. Participants will receive access to the Buzz Diagnostic, a whole school aggregated report on how your staff see the Collaborative Learning Culture at your school, as well as a special QASSP access opportunity to The Buzz Academy.

Optional Experience | Inner City School Visits

Experience two of Brisbane’s inner-city schools; their facilities, complexity, multiculturalism, partnerships and contributions to learning in the 21st century. See the impressive facilities of one of the state’s newest schools, Fortitude Valley State Secondary College. In addition visit West End State School opened in 1875 but also showcasing new architecturally impressive buildings and now boasting over 1000 students. This Experience Is Fully Subscribed

The John Cochran Lecture | Dylan Alcott, Australian of the Year

Award-winning athlete Dylan Alcott described himself as the "luckiest guy in this country" when he was honoured this Australia Day for his powerful disability advocacy and unmatched legacy in the sport he credits with saving his life.

The wheelchair tennis star was born with a tumour wrapped around his spinal cord and without the use of his legs. In 2021, he made history as the first man to complete a golden slam of all four major singles titles as well as Paralympic gold in a calendar year. Dylan tells stories of the importance of pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone in order to achieve your dreams.
